Imagine being 9 years old and being the only kid in your class who can’t participate in gym class because your parents can’t afford running shoes. Imagine being kicked out of your house at 16 and trying to finish school while struggling to live on your own.
About 1 in 10 students of the Halton District School Board (HDSB) live at or below the poverty line and encounter financial barriers like these that make it difficult for them to regularly attend or fully engage in school. The Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) helps support quality education for students of the HDSB by providing emergency funds and student subsidies that help eliminate these barriers, as well as school grants, and post-secondary scholarships for graduating students.
With your support, every student in our community will have the opportunity to stay in school, to be engaged in learning, and to explore possibilities for the future.
