Our Mission: To enrich educational opportunities and eliminate economic barriers to learning for students of the Halton District School Board (HDSB).
Our Vision: To ensure that all students of the HDSB have equal opportunities for participation, engagement and success.
The work HLF does in the HDSB community has a significant and lasting impact on the lives of others. In the spirit of caring, HLF’s work is guided by four key values:
- Accountability – we are transparent with our donors
- Compassion – we are motivated to help those in need
- Inclusivity – we care for each student while respecting their individual circumstances
- Integrity – we operate within a high moral code and exhibit honesty in our interactions
History: In 2002, HLF was established to help schools purchase resources beyond the basics covered by provincial funding. Since inception, HLF has disbursed more than $2 million to HDSB schools to help engage students in learning.
In 2006, recognizing the need to help low-income students fully participate in school, HLF launched the Eliminating Barriers to Education program. Since then HLF has provided $2.4 million to help more than 12,000 students overcome financial barriers to their education.
